Where the Virtual College differs from other Distance Education efforts at MDC is that it is more like a classroom-based course in that there is plenty of interaction among the students and faculty and deadlines for assignments are spaced out throughout the term. Student are in charge of their own learning and the instructor is the facilitator and mentor.
The goal of the Virtual College is to offer complete AA and AS degrees online, and we have made a good start. The number of courses is expanding rapidly along with student enrollment. Miami-Dade Community College has a distinguished tradition of providing outstanding educational experiences for students in the classroom. The Virtual College is our way of extending this quality education to those students who currently do not have easy access to M-DCC classes. All courses in the Virtual College are web-based and may be taken from any place in the world and at any time.
We invite you to browse through the entire Virtual College Website. The three student areas are the Visitors' Plaza for prospective credit students, the Student Center for registered students, and the Community Ed Room for those interested in continuing education courses. In the Faculty Lounge you will find information about teaching for the Virtual College, developing VC courses, VC procedures & guidelines, and course selection. Finally, this area is the Administration Office which offers information about the program, the College-wide Distance Education Committee, various reports and presentations, and information for the Chairs and Advisors.
